Don't forget Mothers Day 6th March

The Story of Mother's Day
The earliest Mother's Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods.
During the 1600's, England celebrated a day called "Mothering Sunday".
Celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period leading up to Easter), "Mothering Sunday" honored the mothers of England.

During this time many of the England's poor worked as servants for the wealthy.
As most jobs were located far from their homes, the servants would live at the houses of their employers.
On Mothering Sunday the servants would have the day off and were encouraged to return home and spend the day with their mothers.
A special cake, called the mothering cake, was often brought along to provide a festive touch.

Marcella & Raggedy Ann joins the R.John.Wright collection

Marcella & Raggedy Ann joins the R.John.Wright 2005 collection,

as a tribute to the daughter whose bed-side stories were Johnny Gruelle's inspiration for the foundation of the Raggedy Ann tales.

Johnny Gruelle created the tales for his daughter
centered around a old rag doll discovered in the attic of their home.
Tragically, at the age of 13, Marcella died of an infected injection of the smallpox vaccination,
just as the Raggedy Ann stories were released to the public.

Cob webs are blown away.

As suggested in an earlier message,
a stroll along the pier would blow away the cob webs,
well due the weather on saturday morning a little more
than just cob webs were being blown away.

But those of you who braved the winter weather were
in for a treat with yet another wonderful fair held
at the Winter Gardens.

Here are a couple of pictures of the morning weather and
a picture of sunshine inside the fair.

Hi we are the new little angels from Country artists.

And welcome you to the delightful world of Cherished Messages,

The bears are off to the seaside.

Saturday 12th February

Come and see us at the Great Bear Fair held at The Winter Gardens in Weston Super Mare.

Other Attractions

The pier at Weston Super Mare can be found just along from the Winter Gardens and makes for a nice place to have a stroll and clear the cob webs away this will all so help to clear the mind ready to concentrate on cuddling all the bears on show at the Fair.

Work started. Driving of the commemorative pile. Contractors were Mayoh & Haley of London.

First part was opened (360 yards of pier and the Pavilion). The main pier is of openwork girders with traceried braces. The Pavilion measured 150ft by 90ft and held a fine Edwardian theatre for 2,000 people (the stage was 62ft by 23ft). Productions included opera, musical comedy, music hall, Shakespeare, ballet and boxing. Many famous artists appeared including George Robey, Vesta Tilley, Sir Ralph Richardson, Mrs. Patrick Campbell, Pavlova, Clara Butt, Jack Hulbert and Cicely Courtneidge.
Moggs band played in the Bandstand every Saturday morning.
A notice of 1905 states "Roller Skating and Promenading permitted each weekday between 11am & 1pm, 2.30pm & 5.00pm, 7.00pm & 10.00pm".

Another great favorite makes a return.

We will start the collection, with the Message Bearers.

These are fun characters, holding a cushion or weary clothing bearing a funny or sweet message.

Check back soon to see all the different messages.

Ty is returning to the store.

That's right, TY is on it's way back to the store, after a gap of about 4 years.

TY has had to turn their entire image around, the product is still collectible, but in more of a fun way.

Adults and children still collect but for the reasons of fun and pleasure.

We will have the range up, onto the web soon.

So check back and see what new characters are now part of the Ty family.

Mrs Tiggy-Winkle celebrates her 100th Birthday

Mrs Tiggy-Winkle celebrates her 100th Birthday this year in the most wonderful way, she has had a replica made by the great Steiff Company and will also be made by the very talented Mr R. John. Wright.

The Steiff version can be ordered through the Steiff Limited Editions Page, the R. John. Wright version can be ordered by Phone at this time, on 01531 635 290.

Although many Beatrix Potter's tales were based on her own pets, she often gave them human qualities too.
The character of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle was inspired by Kitty McDonald, an old Scottish washerwoman, "a comical, round little old woman, as brown as a berry and wears a multitude of petticoats".

Ms Potter's tame hedgehog, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, was a dear person, even though she did bite when provoked! Exquisitely modeled using the finest materials, the happy little hedgehog embodies the charm of her inspiration and provides the perfect celebration for her 100th birthday.

RJW has a new baby girl.

Well, maybe not the man himself but the collection has a new female member joining the collection.

In the beautiful form of Fiona, she is the first female bear to be made by R.John.Wright.

Fiona is not alone, RJW has created a friend for her in the form of Duncan.

These bears are in a small edition of only 300 pieces each, matched numbers will be available, be sure not to miss out, order yours today.

Alice in Wonderland Edition Complete

No News is Good News
